As we reemerge, vaccinated and ready to experience our favorite places again, there are exciting new things to notice all over, like the new mural at Remington’s Clavel, courtesy of multitalented artist Aziza Afzal. The debut of the large-scale painting, named “resurrección,” depicts five celebrating figures, Afzal’s tribute to Clavel’s strength and resilience over the past year. “I wanted to celebrate the spirit of Clavel with my art and invite the viewer to celebrate with the spirits — making offerings and reaching into the unknown,” says Afzal, who dedicated the work to her Clavel work family. The mural is already a hit, featuring in Instagrams and presiding over the busy patio. Basking in Afzal’s work over tacos and margaritas is good enough, but fans of her linocut style can also find wearable works via Clavel swag and online at azizacafzal.com and @ziz.uh on Instagram.
