2019 Excellence in Nursing Dinner and Awards Reception

On May 1, the city’s best hospitals joined Baltimore to celebrate its top nurses for our Excellence in Nursing Dinner and Awards Reception at the Belvedere Hotel. The 75 respected nurses across 18 specialties were nominated by colleagues and patients and honored for their hard and selfless work. Honorees were hand selected by Ken Iglehart, managing editor of special sections, along with writer Rebecca Kirkman and a committee of eight nurse advisors.

The winning nurses, along with 250 of their peers, friends, and family enjoyed a cocktail hour with refreshing beverages and hors d’oeuvres. GBMC Healthcare, our presenting sponsor, hosted a Pixilated photobooth where guests experienced their own photoshoots. Baltimore’s top nurses also received custom pins, recognizing their accomplishments in their prospective medical fields.

The dinner commenced with opening remarks and guest speaker, Sandra Berman, a philanthropist, volunteer, and grateful patient, spoke of her experiences with nurses and emphasized her gratitude for all of their work. An awards presentation followed as Michael Teitelbaum, president of Baltimore, awarded top nurses with certificates. Guests were surprised with custom cookies from the Maryland Nurse’s Association and lip balm from St. Agnes and Ascension at each of their seats.

This event benefited the Caroline Center, an organization that educates aspiring nurses through a rigorous 15-week program, preparing them to be knowledgeable, skilled, and compassionate professionals.
