Leading By Example

Founded by East Baltimore natives Subramonianpillai Teal and Johnnie Fielding in 2009, Leading by Example (LBE) is a mental-health and family-strengthening organization. Teal and Fielding are both first-generation college graduates, masters-level social workers, and licensed clinicians focused on improving the quality of life for children and families in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Harford County. Their vision from the beginning was to build a healing institution that prioritized and emphasized people’s strengths prior to diagnosing illness. Moreover, they sought to eliminate barriers to accessing help by taking counseling into underserved homes and neighborhoods. Teal and Fielding are also proud to announce that in May 2022 they opened a state-of-the-art integrated health-care facility in the neighborhood where they grew up.
