Springboard Community Services
In a world where the echoes of traumatic experiences often drown out the beauty of life, Springboard Community Services is a beacon of hope for youth and young adults whose lives have been impacted by violence, abuse, and neglect.
Springboard’s mental health therapists, case managers, and victim advocates transform the narratives of individuals like Ashley*, a gifted high school student whose life was clouded by unspoken trauma resulting from the abuse she hid. Her trauma manifested in anxiety, conflicts with family, running away, and reckless behavior that led her into child sexual trafficking.
When Ashley was reported as a runaway and her harrowing journey unveiled the horrors she faced, Springboard’s compassionate team of child and family victim advocates, along with dedicated mental health therapists, stepped in. They provided Ashley with a safe space to share her experiences without judgment. With a plan to ensure healthy healing now and into the future, not only was Ashley empowered, but help was also given to her family to navigate their shared trauma and rebuild their lives together.
For 175 years, Springboard (formerly Family and Children Services of Central Maryland) has been a leader in caring for children, families, and individuals in crisis throughout Central Maryland. The need for these services has not diminished. According to the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, in a nationally representative sample of individuals aged 12 to 17:
• 8 % reported a lifetime prevalence of sexual assault
• 17 % reported physical assault
• 39 % reported witnessing violence
Springboard is on the frontline addressing this trauma resulting from gun violence, physical and sexual abuse and neglect. As experts in the field of mental health care, Springboard is the on-site mental health provider at Child Advocacy (and Investigative) Centers in Carroll, Harford, and Howard counties. Through our offices in Baltimore, Bel Air, Columbia, and Westminster, children, families, and individuals can access case management, behavioral health care, housing navigation and more.
