Teach For America Baltimore: By the Numbers

  • From 68 teachers to 1,400 leaders: In 1992, TFA Baltimore launched with 68 teachers, called corps members. Today, current corps members and alumni make up nearly 700 teachers in the region. Altogether, more than 1,400 alumni and corps members are leading in different ways across Maryland.
  • Leading recruiter of diverse teachers: Since 2014, over half of TFA Baltimore’s incoming corps have identified as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC.)
  • Alumni principals lead in student impact: TFA Baltimore alumni principals who were in their role for at least four years led their schools to an accelerated increase in PARCC passage rates—a 58% average increase since the 2014-2015 school year, compared to an average of 14% increase for the district. The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) testing concluded in 2018
