Drs. West and Zeren are board-certified in periodontology and dental implant surgery. They both trained at University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore for their doctorate and postgraduate training in periodontics. Zeren has been consistently selected by his peers as one of Baltimore magazine’s “Top Dentists” since 1992.

After training at University of Maryland School of Dentistry, West served in the United States Navy Dental Corps, and he was stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois, for four years. At that time, he was the staff periodontist for the hospital at Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center. This is the only Veteran’s Administration facility in the country that has a joint naval base. With this unique opportunity, he cared for thousands of medically compromised veterans, who suffered from several disabilities. West also completed clinical rotations at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and the Marine Core Recruiting Depot in San Diego, California. At the end of his naval career, he was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Commander. In addition to his military service, he practiced in Chicago as a part-time periodontist in private dental offices for three years. All these experiences reinforced West’s ability to provide care for patients of all ages with complex medical and dental conditions.

West and Zeren are recognized for their advanced skills in dental implant placement, alveolar ridge reconstruction, and periodontal plastic surgery. They use threedimensional cone beam computer tomography (CBCT) to plan all their dental implants to ensure safe surgical placement and identify healthy bone. For patients with severe bone loss, West and Zeren are designing custom bone grafts that are processed specifically for each patient and dramatically improve bone regeneration. They also utilize well-studied biological agents that significantly improve healing and predictability for the most difficult cases.

West and Zeren have a strong interest in digital dentistry to provide a predictable, comfortable experience for patients. With the use of intraoral scanners to obtain digital impressions and CBCT technology, they perform guided implant surgery to shorten necessary surgical time, and as a result, patients have an easier recovery. Furthermore, guided surgery promotes precise outcomes for patients. West and Zeren utilize two different lasers for minimally invasive periodontal procedures. Both doctors are certified in the LANAP ® protocol by Millenium Dental Technologies, Inc., which is an FDA-approved laser treatment for bone regeneration around teeth and dental implants. They are also certified in the REPAIR Perio protocol by Biolase, Inc., which can remove severe infections around failing dental implants.
