Center Stage has announced that the final production of the 2014-2015 season will be Marley, a new musical written and directed by artistic director Kwame Kwei-Armah. Produced in collaboration with New York’s Public Theater, it is the first original musical about the life of reggae icon Bob Marley, and Kwei-Armah promises it won’t simply be a story constructed from fragments of song lyrics. Rather, it will focus on the two-year period when Marley moved from Jamaica to London after an assassination attempt and produced some of his greatest work. It figures to be a highlight of Center Stage’s season, which opens next month with a production about Mozart (Amadeus). Marley runs from May 6 to June 14.
