Five things to eat, drink, see, hear, and do with your Charm City weekend.
EAT
July 8: BARCS Crab Feast
Jimmy’s Famous Seafood, 6526 Holabird Ave. 6-10 p.m. $65.
With July finally upon us, get your fix of Chesapeake Bay crab at this annual crab feast for a good cause. At Jimmy’s Famous Seafood—the cover star of Baltimore magazine’s July issue—dig into endless hard shells, Maryland crab soup, pit beef, BBQ pulled pork, and corn on the cob with ice-cold draft beer. When you get too full, try your chances at raffles, auctions, and, when you work your appetite back, head over to the bake sale for a sweet treat, all to benefit the Baltimore Animal Rescue & Center Shelter.
DRINK
July 7: The Bluebird Grand Opening
3600 Hickory Ave., Third Floor. 4 p.m.-2 a.m.
In the era of master mixologists and craft cocktails, Hampden finally has a fine drinkery all of its own. Above the German beer bar De Kleine Duivel, this literary-themed cocktail room will feature Prohibition-style tipples served over hand carved ice in a room that’s almost too beautiful. Think gold leaf designs, luxe banquettes, and natural light. This Friday, celebrate its grand opening with drinks and good times until 2 a.m.
SEE
July 7-August 25: Little Italy Open Air Film Festival
High & Stiles Streets. Fri. 7 p.m. Free.
Every Friday night through August, set up some lawn chairs, grab some free popcorn, and bring friends to watch open-air flicks projected onto the outside wall of Ciao Bella. This Friday, snap out of it with the 1987 Cher and Cage classic, Moonstruck, followed by cinematic treasures throughout the summer, like Grease, Rocky, The Godfather I and II, and, of course, the grand finale, Cinema Paradiso.
HEAR
July 7: Summer of Love 50th Anniversary Show
Creative Alliance, 3134 Eastern Ave. 8-11 p.m. $15-18.
Let Baltimore’s experimental rock group, Fractal Cat, transport you back to the Summer of Love. Don your tie-dye and bring your fellow hippies to celebrate for the 50th anniversary of 1967’s psychedelic milestone. Performing classics from the British Invasion, Greenwich Village, and San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury—think Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Bob Dylan, and, of course, The Beatles—the band will be joined by their own musical friends to create a far-out, feel-good night.
DO
July 9: Summer Sundays with Pop Up Yoga
Patterson Park, 27 South Patterson Park Ave. 9:30 a.m. Free.
This Sunday, start off a fresh week with sun salutations out on the plush green hills of Patterson Park. Instructor Rebecca Horner will be leading the class with limited mats available but water, towels, and sunglasses encouraged. Soak up some summer morning rays with a 60-minute, donation-based vinyasa and channel your best tree pose with every inhale, exhale and om. Namaste, indeed.
