Open & Shut: The William Fell Tavern; Cheap Eats at Camden Yards; Chesapeake Oyster Week

The latest restaurant openings, closings, and recent news.

OPEN

The William Fell Tavern: The Admiral Fell Inn has a new name—and a new restaurant. The historic Fells Point hotel on the cobblestoned corner of South Broadway and Thames has been rebranded by Hilton and is now dubbed The William Fell Inn, after the founder of our beloved waterfront locale. The property’s restaurant space, formerly Duck Duck Goose, is now home to The William Fell Tavern, which has begun accepting reservations for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The new ownership team with Connecticut-based Meyer Jabara Hotels has tapped chef Tom Collins to head up the kitchen, which offers Baltimore spins on classic American dishes. (Think: crab cake Benedicts and Orange Crushes.)

The group also now owns, and plans to soon reopen, the property’s subterranean Anchor Tavern, which was known as the Tavern at the Admiral for decades before it was taken over by Duck Duck Goose chef Ashish Alfred in 2022. There’s also a possibility we will see a transformation in the former home of Osteria Pirata around the corner, “if the William Fell Tavern does well,” as MJH food and beverage director Guy Reinbold recently told the BBJ

For those who need a refresher, Alfred closed all three of the property’s concepts—Duck Duck Goose, Anchor Bar, and Osteria Pirata—last summer, citing safety concerns. He has since filed for bankruptcy.

NEWS

Camden Yards Launches a Value Menu: Camden Yards has finally introduced ballpark bites for us O’s fans who are ballin’ on a budget. New for 2025, the stadium will offer a menu of eats and drinks that are priced at $5 or less. This season, swing by various carts and Birdland Market stands to get your hands $2.50 peanuts; $3.50 popcorn; and $4 hot dogs, pretzel bites, nachos, and sodas. Plus, select beers, seltzers, and NA drinks will only run you $5-6. If you’re looking for something more filling, both Ekiben and Attman’s Deli will have permanent stalls at the ballpark this season. Or you could go for one of the new signature dishes, including a footlong pretzel dog smothered in crab dip and topped with sweet corn and fried green tomatoes.

Restaurants Unite for the First-Ever Chesapeake Oyster Week: Ten days celebrating oysters? It only makes sense here in the DMV. The inaugural Chesapeake Oyster Week is currently underway at more than 50 eateries throughout the area. Think of it like a typical Restaurant Week, with dining promotions specifically highlighting oysters. Organized by the Oyster Recovery Partnership and the Maryland Department of Agriculture, the event features nearby specials like Southern Maryland Oyster stew and baked wild Chesapeake oysters at Gertrude’s; $1 oysters on the half shell and fried oyster brunch tacos at Gunther & Co.; buck-a-shucks and 20 percent off select oyster menu items at Mama’s on the Half Shell; mini oyster pot pies at Thames Street Oyster House; and $2 raw and roasted oysters at True Chesapeake.

See the full list of offerings here, and pick out a spot to get a great meal while also supporting ORP’s Shell Recycling Alliance. The program collects donated shells from the restaurants, uses them to rebuild reefs for juvenile oysters, and, in turn, helps to clean the Chesapeake Bay for other seafood to thrive.
