Baltimore City’s Restaurant Week is a good time to get a three-course, $30 dinner deal at one of your area favorites but at The Food Market, chef-owner Chad Gauss is putting a new spin on the concept by kicking it up a notch at his Hampden haunt.
In addition to the regular prix-fixe dinner, Gauss is offering a four-course, $75 per person (plus beverages, tax, and gratuity) meal in the restaurant’s private basement kitchen during Restaurant Week, which runs from Feb. 15-28.
“Hopefully, this will feel special as our customers get to go behind the scenes,” says Gauss. “This is an opportunity for us to create a higher-end deal for our customers and enjoy communal-style seating while be tended to by private chefs. The private kitchen will allow us to showcase our higher end, as well as the more pedestrian end with the regular restaurant week.”
Highlights will include tableside preparation of dishes such as tuna tartare with crispy shallots, cucumber, and black truffle and pastrami beets with Gruyere and kraut foam.
Other menu standouts include a Chilean sea bass with potato crumble, cauliflower, and shrimp butter, and Waygu beef with charred cabbage and horseradish fingerlings.
Also of note: We particularly love the feel-good inspiration behind The Hood, a Charm City Cook brownie with Mouth Party Caramels and ice cream from The Charmery. “It’s just an opportunity to thank friends of the business and use everyone from our Hampden neighborhood,” says Gauss.
