On The Town

Weekend Lineup: Oct. 17-19

The best things to do in Baltimore this weekend.

EAT

Oct. 17-19: 6th Annual Baltimore Beer Week

Locations, times, and prices vary; baltimorebeerweek.com

Soak up all the beers you drank during this year’s Baltimore Beer Week with the festival’s last weekend eats. Friday, check out a chocolate-themed happy hour at Heavy Seas Alehouse, mix Miller Cider and local cheese at Liam Flynn’s Ale House, or get fancy with flights and apps at the B&O Railroad Museum in Ellicott City. On Saturday, pair some Heavy Seas with free Bakery Express donuts at Whitey’s, eat brats with your Hofbräu’s at Duda’s Tavern, or compete in a brew-infused stew contest at The Wharf Rat. Come Sunday, cap it all off with a Ravens vs. Falcons beer dinner at Le Garage.

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, 1876 Mansion House Dr. 12-4 p.m. $40-50. 410-396-7102. marylandzoo.org

Perhaps the best Oktoberfest ever, this outdoor event not only features an unlimited supply of more than 30 seasonal and local beers—including the likes of Flying Dog, Brewer’s Art, Jail Break, Terrapin, and DuClaw—but it also includes all-day admission to the zoo. Animals and beers, beers and animals! (Just don’t feed them any samples.) There will also be live polka music and traditional German food.

SEE

Oct. 16-Nov.16: Grounded

Everyman Theatre, 315 W. Fayette St. Wed.-Sun. Times vary. $34-60. 410-752-2208. everymantheatre.org

Now in its opening weekend, Grounded tells the modern story of a female F-16 fighter pilot (played by resident company member Megan Anderson) whose unexpected pregnancy takes her from missions in the Middle East to remote-controlled drone operations in a trailer outside Las Vegas. A co-production with D.C.’s Olney Theatre Center, the play has been heralded as “close to perfection” and “a powerful, hallucinogenic experience.”
