It’s a Super Bowl rematch and a sibling rivalry. But those are probably the least important reasons to watch tonight’s preseason opener.
First, we want to get a look at new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak’s scheme and play calling. It’s no secret the Ravens’s offense has been predictable and a little dull at times the last few years. Particularly, we want to see how Joe Flacco, one of the game’s best deep throwers, responds to a quicker, more efficient West Coast-oriented attack.
We also want to see if Joe has already established some chemistry with his new receivers, for example, Steve Smith.
First-round draft pick C.J. Mosley looks like he’ll start at inside linebacker and we’d like to see him make a few tackles, too.
Finally, we’re hoping the offensive line comes off the ball and opens some holes for the running game—last year’s biggest weakness. Ray Rice, or not, the Ravens need to run the ball to be successful.
Drive safe and tailgate well everybody. Football season is upon us.
