We were all a bit dismayed when City Sports decided to shutter its doors in Harbor East, since inexpensive workout clothing in the neighborhood may now be a thing of the past. But our disappointment quickly turned to curiosity: what would fill the massive 7,000-square-foot retail space?
Well wonder no longer, as Harbor East Management Group announced yesterday that Brooks Brothers will be opening a retail location that will be take up more than 5,000 feet of the space at 809 Aliceanna Street. On par with the “Baltimore’s luxury district” sign that now welcomes folks into the neighborhood, Brooks Brothers is primarily known for its high-end menswear, though also sells women’s and children’s apparel, and shoes and accessories.
“The brand’s reputation of tradition, quality, and style is undeniable and will be seen as a great amenity to the neighborhood,” said Tim O’Donald, president of Harbor East Management Group.
Interestingly, this is Brooks Brothers’ second location in Baltimore City, the other being less than a mile away in the Gallery at Harborplace. But it seems like the luxury brand will fit right in with its future Harbor East neighbors, including J.Crew, Anthropologie, Madewell, and Under Armour.
As Brooks Brothers CEO Claudio Del Vecchio put it: “The area has become synonymous with style and luxury and we believe that will resonate very closely with the Brooks Brothers customer.”
The store is slated to open in the first quarter of 2016, and Harbor East is still looking for tenants to take up the remaining space.
